After having a lovely stroll along the magnificent Southbank my wife and I were resigned to having to find some overpriced chain in which to eat, as seems to be the way of London's tourist spots. Come to the rescue the Swan at the Globe, it sits snugged up to the globe theatre with beautiful views overlooking the Thames and St Pauls. We were offered the opportunity to eat in their lovely relaxed bar or upstairs in a traditional looking but very modern restaurant, we opted for the restaurant. Well, all good things, I was very impressed with the menu which was diverse and tempting, the Ham hock salad I started with was delicious and the confit duck leg for my main was cooked to perfection, the meat just fell off of the Bone and was beautifully moist. My better half said the sea Trout was equally as good, but was underwhelmed by her roasted pear starter. The wine list looked very well chosen, by somebody with an eclectic and knowledgeable palate, unfortunately as only one of us were drinking I had to pass on some of the iconic bottles and had a glass of Sauvignon which was excellent. All in all, with the bill not being half of what we expected to pay in this part of town we were delighted with our experience here and shall certainly be returning. Long live the Swan!
