The Delaunay is a wonderful fail-safe. Yes, there is better food around, yes all day brasseries are not everybody's cup of tea and yes the price to value ratio is getting slimmer but it always makes for a good evening! Always a buzzing atmosphere, they go the extra bit to find you a last minute table and then present a table of food and wine that leaves you happy and perfectly satisfied! Our most recent foray was a last minute Saturday night decision and the place was really humming. With an ever present eclectic mix of people, this night proved no exception and kicked off beautifully with the best dry martini I have had in a long while! Sautéed cheese pierogi started the food section beautifully – they can be pretty heavy so 2 large ones was just right followed by a steak tartare, admittedly not one of the best I have had there (a few more capers and spices needed please!) but was nevertheless freshness personified (an absolute necessity for a tartare). My dining partner waxed lyrical over her Carlingford oysters and admitted that whilst her rib-eye steak was certainly no match for a Goodman or a Hawksmoor it certainly did the trick and was cooked just as she had asked. The wine list is short but very well thought out and our choice (ably helped by a frightfully accommodating waiter who allowed us a blind tasting of the 2 wines we were deliberating over!) of a 2007 Marqués de Murrietta Rioja Reserva proved an inspired one. The only gripe? King & Corbin continue to include a cover charge at their restaurants: these have to go! They're outdated, rude and an insult to diners.
