When I have high hopes for a restaurant and these are met – sadly this happens seldom in London these days – I tend to reserve judgement until I have visited a few times. But the Delaunay really does score top marks. It was off to a wobbly start the initial success in its first month swamped the team with reservation requests during a time the operation didn't seem fully “run-in”. But now, it is a well oiled and finely tuned gastronomic power-house (much more than a brasserie mind you!) and delivers time after time going from strength to strength. Especially the service and the atmosphere are amazing. You can arrive at 11pm to find the place buzzing with service and food at 100%. London needed a place like this and while, evil tongues may say it is an Austrian-themed Wolseley-sibling in Aldwych. I respond: Yes, but it does so many things so well so consistently, that I sometimes wish the mother-ship would take note and fix its rubbery Moules Frites. Can't make it to Vienna this week? Make it Aldwych instead. Brilliant.
