Most people that venture to Sushi Samba, do so for the city views. They are fantastic.
This venue however remains (since opening) a place where how you look and how you flash your cash matter.
Firstly there is making a booking – nearly impossible! When you do get in, the bloke who looks like Tintin (now famous in the City for turning people away if you are not dressed quite right…) will look you up and down, and only allow you access if you have a booking and look the part. Now up to the 38th & 39th floors in the glass elevator you go! When you reach the restaurant less than a minute later and with a head rush you'll be faced with a buzzy atmosphere, a wonderful open space and clientele who are mainly rich Nobu frequenting types, well dressed, well heeled, and many designer suits… The service is somewhat impeccable – although they do insist that food should be ordered ‘for the table’ it is reccomended that you abide by this to get the true Sushi Samba experience. We sipped on seasonal sakés whilst browsing the extensive menu where Japan, Brazil and Peru come together. We ordered a good mix of sides, and sushi after our waiter deciphered and explained the dishes. The food when it arrived was absolutely sublime, very colourful and the freshest of the fresh. We watched the sun go down over London with satified paletes and an air of importance.
