This new pop-up certainly has been attracting lots of attention in the media – particularly for one or two “specialities” on the menu.
I tried the soft shell crab burger having read one positive review, and found it to be more full of hype than taste. In fact it looked and tasted like deep fried lard, which really is then just a waste of calories. (If you really like soft shell crab – have it neat at Roka for instance). Some of the other dished tried were OK, but well below my levels of expectation.
I would hardly call the venue smart either – it is small to the point of being cramped, on the site of an abandoned petrol station, and overlooking a rather ugly stretch of regents canal. The service was generally good, with the exception of the manager who was somewhat arrogant. The bill was reasonably hefty, and I think there is better value to be had elsewhere. Feels a little bit like a case of The Kings New Clothes!
