We booked this for a family outing as it was convenient for the Comedy Club we were going to afterwards. It's about five minutes walk from Holborn tube station, so very easy to get to. The building was formerly a public library, I think so the interior is quite interesting, with a very high ceiling and a galleried area. The evening we were there, they had live music – a woman singing, accompanied by a guitarist. If this isn't your bag it's probably a good idea to check when you book whether they're doing it or not.
Service was prompt and polite – I didn't find myself craning around looking for a waiter the entire evening, which is great.
We had a large selection of starters including some dim sum (excellent) and other tasty morsels. Portions were generous so don't over-order. The highlight of the appetisers had to be the soft-shell crab with butterfly prawns which was very nice indeed.
We then had 1/2 crispy aromatic duck which came with an ample supply of pancakes (unusually – we normally have to order more) and was again very good, with no over-cooked bits and lots of nice crispy skin.
Finally we had a couple of mains – the fillet steak in a sauce was wonderfully tender and highly recommended. The chicken in spicy sauce was a little too spicy for my kids, but again good anyway if you like the hotter northern cuisine.
Good choice, would go again.
