I looked forward to having dinner at the Savoy (booked in July for an October trip to London), only to find it severely disappointing. The only part of the experience that was satisfactory was the service. Top notch service. However, that is exactly where the excellence began and ended. My dinner date is a vegetarian and had the endive salad, followed by the polenta and basil ravioli with beurre noisette, lemon and capers. When she reviewed the online menu in July and the day of our dinner, she has settled on the Puy lentil stew with baby vegetables and garlic butter. However, when we received our physical dinner menus, it was not listed. After inquiring, the waiter said they had not offered that particular dish for some time. Really? Then why has it been on the menu for months? Overall, her meal was unimpressive. Honestly, I could have prepared the same at home with more flavor and far less oil. The meal ended up making her quite ill an hour after leaving the restaurant. As for my meal, I ordered the Wellington of Herdwick lamb with sauteed spinach, baby carrots, and lamb jus. The lamb was a good colour, heavy pink, but was tough and flavorless. The vegetables were quite good, however. I ordered the lamb since steak I can prepare at home, and lamb I rarely tackle. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed. Based on the meal, we decided not to order dessert. This was my first Gordon Ramsay owned restaurant experience, and I seriously doubt I will chance another.
