atmosphere was swanky enough – love the curtain aspect to the entry, a la NYC restaurants downtown. Why dont more places in London use this theater upon entry?
Sadly, not much to laud beyond the curtain…decor is cool on the top floor, decorative skulls and rich paint hues on the wall.
cocktail list was incredibly short, and bartenders were not well informed. Despite a latin theme, they didnt know what a paloma was, which is a basic mexican cocktail.
for the lower ground floor, the decor falls off and half of it is consumed by an open plan ktichen where you can watch line order chefs cooking and sweating. its not a gourmand atmosphere and the lighting and smell is not additive to a meal. They should close this off or use screening to the ceiling. We were next to it, so this was more pronounced for our table than some but it still is overly dominant.
The service was borderline appalling. Our table of 5 had just as many waiters come pass by, all clueless about our orders. Wine and drinks came randomly, as did courses. Water was never refilled without persistent requests. And even then, they would pour half the table and not everyone. They were nice enough, just totally disorganised.
After an hour wait between starters and mains, we were informed that they could no longer offer fish tacos as these had sold out. We had been waiting for them for 90 minutes so this was bizarre news. They managed to tack it on our bill however and then did remove it when I pointed it out and took off a bit of our bill to compensate for the service aspect.
Foodwise, yellow tail was outstanding. Guacomole good – but hard to mess up. Cant say its any better than Wahaca sadly. Has the potential to be a great Mexican in Mayfair, but needs a major service upgrade and improvement overall.
