I'm writing this review of Northbank about a month after visiting as that's how long it's taken me to recover from my hangover. You come for a few quiet drinks in the City with the girls. In fact you have a few proseccos perusing the interesting wallpaper (gangstas and the gherkin courtesy of London Toile from Timorous Beasties, fyi) whilst waiting for a terrace table and said girls to arrive. Then you all tuck into a few bottles of chilled crisp white wine out on the terrace where the unusual English sunshine, collective pre-Olympics euphoria and pleasant people-watching spot make you linger a touch longer than you really should. You go through to the restaurant to eat about 2 hrs after you meant to and order something hearty and stomach lining from the section of the menu which swims into focus. You drink more wine because the staff are lovely and the company is great and you are really enjoying the evening and the atmosphere and the view across the river which is so clear through the big, wide windows. You remember something meaty and delicious arriving. You remember ordering potatoes for better stomach lining abilities after all the mains have arrived and them being swiftly delivered. You drink more wine. You don't finish the meal because there is only so much room in the stomach and by now most of that has been taken up with wine. You pay about £50 each which seems very reasonable but perhaps you're not the best placed to judge. You leave only to go dancing at Kanaloa. You later realise you have left your credit card behind the bar where the bar staff keep it safe and sound whilst you go off on a yoga holiday to Spain to recover. You vow never to get into such a state again. But you vow to return to Northbank so you can actually try the food. You've been warned.
