It feels like Le C has been here forever and perhaps it has. Slick and attentive lunchtime service got busier and busier, but we were rather early for Sunday jazz – apparently it is Saturday brunch/lunch and Sunday evening. Following on from Brasserie Chavot the previous evening was rather a tall order. Breads were ok and my chicken tarragon soup didn't work for me mostly because I had hoped for something lighter and more modern which was my mistake for not asking – it looked as though it had been made with leftover chicken…nothing wrong with that if it had had more tarragon and a fresher zing to it, so I felt slightly apprehensive about what was to follow. My partner reassured me that his risotto starter with morels and artichokes (to follow as my main) was very good indeed. Greatly relieved I had to agree that the risotto was done properly and completely satisfying as was his superb quality rib-eye. Brouilly and a Crozes Hermitage were selected from a decent list by the glass and both were very agreeably glugged. I was bemused to find one cake in the bread basket which resembled a chocolate brownie, but I suppose if someone is there for brunch, then that is maybe what some would wish to find. Needless to say we will be back not only for the jazz but also the food.
