If you look at reviews of Le Boudin Blanc on this and other sites the word that will spring to mind is uneven. The food and especially the service/atmosphere seems to produce delight and despair by turn. However, having used this restaurant over twenty times across maybe fifteen years with family, friends, and often just the two of us, I have to say we like it.
Now I can't say that experiences of poor service, raucous guests and poor cooking don't happen- what I can say is that they've never happened to us. Not once. Ever. There is one thing that may be significant here and that is we normally eat here at lunch , and fairly early at that before the place fills up- or early evening. Maybe that's the answer- go when the place isn't under pressure and you'll get a better meal, more smiles and better service.
Lunch today was what we've come to expect- a very good dish of soft calamari for me ( far better than the ubiquitous flour-dipped rings) and a perfectly decent grilled whole seabass with roasted fennel and a few good fries. For my wife the special of roulade of pork on a herby mash and a red wine jus, followed by a Tarte Tatin. With it we enjoyed a very satisfactory, light, Bergerac merlot which is their house red.. All of this was good. It wasn't really gourmet- it was typical bistro food cooked and served decently, and at £83 for the two of us we thought it was priced about right. As others have mentioned you could imagine yourself in Paris – though frankly its not too easy to find this sort of food in London, and so I'm pretty pleased its here. We'll go again and look forward to it, as we always do.
