I had read the other reviews on Square Meal before I went to Langan's last night and unfortunately I have to agree with them. Starting with the positive, the food was good! I am vegetarian so there was only one option for me (Anglo-Indian Curry) but it was delicious. A creamy vegetable curry with brown rice to give a good texture. My fellow diners all had the special, which was belly of pork. They said the meat was cooked slowly and tasted tender as did the bed of onions it sat on. However, that is where the positive comments end. The side dishes were all cold and the service was friendly but so disorganised. There were lots of waiters milling around all being busy and everyone of them must have served us at some point. We had the wrong cutlery for our starters. No one came to fill up our empty wine and water glasses. We ordered desserts and when after 40 minutes it hadn't arrived (but the coffee had) we asked two different waiters. Both brought up the menus and didn't understand that we had already ordered but not received our desserts. After an hour we gave up and asked for the bill. The waiter was apologetic and blamed the computer system (I should have replied, have you tried switching it off an on again?). We had a nice evening but that was mostly because of the company I was with rather than the restaurant. There are far better places to go in London so I won't be coming back here again I'm afraid. Just a note about the atmosphere, yes it is old school decor with the paintings etc. but I liked the homely feel about it. It was very busy all evening so I guess it doesn't matter about the reviews on this site and people who love it still go back time after time.
