The first impression of Hutong on exiting the lift on the 32nd floor was to be accosted by a receptionist who went on for a good five minutes about my converse ‘trainer’ style shoes and how they shouldn't let me in (just like getting into Yates wine lodge) but as I'd reserved a table they were going to let me off this time.
The 2nd impression was of course the fabulous views of London, which certainly made up for any hassles at the door.
We were four people and went for lunch, more specifically Dim Sum. At £28 for 5 plates and with 20 plates on the menu we simply went for one of everything. On the whole everything was good, it is difficult for dim sum to be exciting. That said the Xiao Long Bao was the best I've had outside Asia and simply for those I would return.
Service was a little slow, and given the table size it might of been better to stagger the delivery of the dishes but the restaurant was quite happy for us to wonder around taking pictures of the view.
To sum up if it wasn't for the location you'd not really go out of your way to find Hutong, but given the viewing platform and a meal here is a very similar price you might as well have a meal (I think the view is better on this level too, as you're more amongst the buildings).
