Hummous Bros became an occasional treat for me when I was a student based at Central St Martins on Southampton Row. CSM have since moved to Kings Cross, but Hummous Bros remain where they are, if a little emptier without hungry art students spending their student loan.
The food is tasty and very filling, but the price can quickly add up once you add sides and a drink or go for one of the meat toppings, especially at dinner time. I recommend going with a friend and getting just a small sized dish- it comes with a generously sized pitta bread- and adding some tortilla chips and a greek salad to share between the two of you. Go for the mint tea- unlimited refills, and indulge in one of their chocolate brownies or some baklava at the end.
In terms of atmosphere, there's not much, but despite the huge glass wall/door the restaurant is generally draft free and can even get cosy in the evening with the lights on low. The staff are friendly, but service can be quite slow, especially for take away, even at “off-peak” times. Still, you are made to feel welcome and are never treated to pushy service- even if you have your laptop out to take advantage of the wifi or have lost track of time chatting away.
I recommend Hummous Bros as a place to unwind after a day in the British museum, or as a filling station to load up before a night out or a commute home.
