In the ‘burbs’ of Blackheath lies everyone's favourite local. Chapters all day dining, as the name suggests is just that. The location is in Blackheath's finest spot, near the vast expanse of the heath (try to forget about the black plague beneath!), busy enough to people watch from outside and a short train journey from London Bridge. I have eaten there a ridiculous number of times, for breakfast (posh eggs benedict my fave), brunch (smoked salmon and toast, al fresco), lunch (the best josper griddled burger you can find) and dinner (duck confit still the best, followed by crunchy apple crumble and creme anglais). The beauty of this place is that the food is michelin starred quality but distilled down to cosy, heart warming grub, the kind of fare you want in a local bistro.
You can take your kids, your mates , your lover, your fave foodie couple, your mother in law, one size fits all. The service is warm, not too attentive but very professional. The decor is smart brasserie with brick walls, trendy lighting, and floor to ceiling windows, smart but cosy. The prices are so competitive for this quality of food. Prices often match nearby Cote (franchise French influence bistro), which although I like (not love), cannot compare to the finesse, originality and fabulously tasty food in Chapters. The simple ingredients to success here are excellent food at excellent prices with excellent service, one in a million.
