After several changed bookings at last we entered Brasserie Chavot and it was certainly worth waiting for! The decor of the dining room is stunning with the mosaic floor setting the scene for the restaurant as well as the menus. The dining room is in traditional French style with banquettes down the sides and tables in the centre. The colour scheme makes for a lively atmosphere. Although Chef Chavot did not set out to make this a fine dining experience nevertheless the standard of food, drink and service make it one!
Our pre-lunch dish were four plump Oysters which certainly set the scene. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Chicken liver parfait which was followed by a simply gorgeous piece of Daube de Boeuf with delightful vegetables and he finished off with a Cafe Ligeois which was a glass of wonderfulness: chocolate, cafe, macaroon… I was equally delighted with a very simple but ultra fresh tasting Crab mayonnaise followed by succulent venison on a bed of spinach and accompanied by cubes of assorted vegetables in a wonderful jus; the Vanilla creme brulee tasted every bit as good as it sounded! The wine list was varied and reasonable. In fact the prices are extremely good for Mayfair which just means that we will be able to go back more often!
Chef Chavot is obviously a perfectionist and this shows both in his fantastic cooking and dining room.
