Having been through the website to check out the menu, I was quite excited about going to Brasserie Blanc. However, I left very disappointed!
We had a cocktail to start – mine was an expresso martini served in the smallest martini glass I've ever seen. Given the cost of cocktails was around £9 each, I wasn't terribly impressed. The icing on the cake though was the Bourbon biscuit they used to garnish the rim of the glass. I mean, seriously, what are they thinking of??!! By comparison, I've had cocktails at the St Martin's Lane Hotel down the road before and although they are more expensive, they are much better taste wise and value for money wise.
The food at BB wasn't much better (or larger). We were brought four tiny slices of French bread which were dwarfed by the bowl it was served in. For the meal, I had the goats cheese parcel followed by filet of salmon which had a bowl of fries and some sort of tomato mayonnaise served with it. Neither were anything to write home about – paletable, but that's about it. The mayo tasted of nothing. My companion was slightly better off with her guinea fowl starter but the main of scallops again wasn't great.
With wine and service, we spent nearly £130 at Brasserie Blanc. Personally, I thought it was worth about half that. I know people will go there because of the location but if you're prepared to spend money on restaurants, you're better off going elsewhere. Seriously, I've dined at Michelin star restaurants for a similar cost and had better food and drink! I've also dined at places like Cafe Rouge who serve not dissimilar food to BB but which frankly tastes considerably better AND you come away feeling satisfied and that you've had very good value for money!
Service at BB was fine – we had a charming but a bit too cheeky waiter who thought it was amusing to keep asking me for a chip. The general environment of the place was fine too but was nothing special. They could do far more given the location.
So overall, poor cocktails, poor food, OK service but zero points in terms of value for money. Seriously BB, you need to do better!
And in case you're wondering, I won't be going there again!
