I have lived in Wimbledon Village for 30 years and welcome any new restaurants and am always excited to try new venues.
.I have really tried to like Aubaine, mainly because it has a lovely garden area at the rear but have frequently been dissapointed by the food quality. The staff are generally friendly but prices are very high for what is essentially a chain for modern Mediterranean cuisine with similar competition nearby of chains such as Cote which is much better quality food at much more favourable prices .At Aubaine amongst other dishes I have had the (very expensive at £25) steak ,I asked for medium rare and it came dryand overcooked ,moules which had a sauce akin to the consistancy and taste of washing up liquid, lobster spaghetti(again expensive at £25)and not good and last night the ‘special’ seafood pasta, the sauce of which was sickly sweet in flavour and the spaghetti was mushy and overcooked.
When asked the 'rhetorical 'question by the waitress ‘did you enjoy that’ ? my companion and I who both had the same dish said that we did not and explained exactly why ,the waitress made no comment and just walked off sheepishly so I'm sure that the chef is blissfully unaware that the dish was a dissaster. We recieved no apology or explanation .To add insult to injury the dish was £18.50 each ,I have paid less for much better pasta dishes in the centre of London in high end Italian establishments such as La Famiglia and Scallini.
The poor quality of food generally is compounded by very high prices.
Sorry Aubaine, either get your act together or become yet another failed resataurant in Wimbledon Village
