We like to try the new openings, especially in such inconic locations as The Shard in Lodonn. Firstly, The Shard is very easy to find being adjacent to London Bridge Station. At the entrance there are plenty of staff to tell you where to head. The restaurant is on the 32nd floor. The views are spectacular IF you get a table near a window. The four of us didn't – the excuse being that only tables for 2 were near the windows. We had booked a long time in advance and requested a window table so I think it was unfair not to have given us one. Anyway, to see the views you can walk up to the windows if you wish.
The place is buzzy, busy and hectic. Service was pretty quick – too quick for our taste really. But I suppose you have to say service was good. The food was actually very good. Between us we sampled cured sea bass, wood pigeon, scallops and lobster and all meals were thoroughly enjoyed. Portion sizes are small which wasn't an issue for us, but could be for some. The staff will keep bringing excellent bread along whenever requested, and side dishes are available if needed. The wine list is good with several good wines by the glass – glasses are 125ml so the prices look reasonable!
The experience was generally good. Prices are as you would expect high – but by no means the highest in London. It's worth a visit. We'll be trying the other restaurants at The Shard in due course.
