This was my 5th visit to the shard. Oblix was fab, Hutong beguiling, this time I thought I would try Aqua Shard. You can't really go wrong, sensational views, loads of staff, cosy liberty upholstered moon shaped booths and a chef from the house of Pierre Gagniare. Unfortunately this was not the case. The food is marketed as innovative contemporary British and so ticks all the boxes, i.e. nicely cooked lamb, refined presentation, confit of salmon generous and tasty. Baked scottish cod was reasonable but under-seasoned and small in size. The problem here is the unpleasant service and offish attitude. Firstly we waited 30 minutes before being served any wine, then, each food course was interrupted by a ridiculously long hiatus. Wine glasses were not refilled, leaving a table of v thirsty individuals. All in all, it was not a bad night, but I fear this will be my last visit to this restaurant. If you are going to pay sky high prices, my tip would be to try the other 2 fab restaurants, ‘up the shard’. It just shows how much service is key to the whole dining experience.
