The moment you set foot in this village stalwart you know you’re in the hands of professionals, thanks to its polished front-of-house team, its comfortable, contemporary good looks, & cooking that knocks the spots off most local Italians. The menu offers updated treatments of Italian standards, so a carpaccio of beef with celery, parmesan & lemon dressing might be followed by chilli-marinated baby chicken with sweet peppers or escalope of veal served three ways. Classic pasta is a particular forte: squid ink tagliolini with clams & asparagus or pennette alla carbonara with Italian sausage. Desserts, meanwhile, are creamy & fruity: chocolate semifreddo with black cherries & a definitive pannacotta headed our list of favourites. The all-Italian wine list is also a delight.
