Welcome to Town

You'd be forgiven for thinking it an ordinary pub or tearoom, especially as the interior is as cosily traditional as a game of cricket. Yet a glance at the menu reveals chef Ian Bennet's serious intent and with the help of wife Jay (a fine hostess) he has transformed this old pub into an acclaimed dining venue. Standing as it does so close to Gower's bountiful coastline (rocks to the south, salt marsh to the north), the restaurant's menu is packed with local delicacies. Naturally the sea provides plenty of these, as in a pressed terrine of lobster and leek with saffron vinaigrette, but meat and vegetable options are just as alluring, with Welsh inhabitants such as lamb (with herb crust, minted pea puree, sauce cuisson, gratin dauphinoise and green salad) and Black beef (with spinach, fondant potato, wild mushrooms and bordelaise sauce) all getting their share of the glory.
