A reliable, renowned gastropub in the heart of the Lake District, the Drunken Duck provides stunning views, several roaring fires & excellent, wholesome fare for travellers & locals alike. An onsite brewery (Barngates Brewery) ensures freshly brewed beer is available, while dishes are typically hearty in the bar (lunchtime brings soup, sandwiches & ploughman's), more ambitious in the restaurant: confit of duck with rocket & chilli jam ahead of, perhaps, grilled halibut on asparagus & crispy smoked pancetta bruschetta with a poached egg & truffle oil hollandaise. British & Irish cheeses get their own menu, & it's all ably supported by a wine list that is strong on wines by the glass.
