The occasion destination of choice for local well-to-dos, the Royal Country Restaurant within the Durham Marriott offers grand, old-fashioned dining in traditional surrounds, where classical cooking comes silver-served with backing music from a grand piano (Jackets and ties gentlemen, please!). For a more approachable affair, try the Mediterranean brasserie Cruz next door. Both are popular so book ahead.
