Square Meal review of The Three Chimneys & The House Over-By:

Eddie & Shirley Spear’s commitment is palpable in this converted crofters house, all stone walls, plaster & bare wooden tables. The simple decor leaves food to speak for itself. Local ingredients (particularly seafood) are put to commendable use in everything from flavour-infused mussel, fennel & saffron broth to fillet of turbot & Skye lobster grilled with coral butter, garden spinach, potato rosti & vanilla veloute. Seasonal game plays a big part, too, with a warm salad of breast of mallard, seared king scallops & a warm orange, honey & grainy mustard dressing showing off the kitchens skill with both fish & game. Or there could be seared saddle of rabbit & hare & golden pearl barley with choucroute savoy & blueberry game gravy on the daily changing menu, or even venison & partridge. But leave room for local cheeses & Shirley’s puds, not least her old-fashioned fruit bread pudding served with plum compote & vanilla ice cream. Guest accommodation is available at The House Over-By, which has six bedroom suites with sea views & offers guests a full breakfast before they embark on a bracing walk by the sea.
