Square Meal Review of Isla's Restaurant at The George Hotel ?

Glorious views of the local harbour and access to England’s longest wooden pier are just two of the assets at this enviably situated waterside hotel – formerly owned by Dire Straits bass player John Isley but now in the hands of Dianne Thompson CBE (group CEO at Camelot). There have also been changes in the kitchen with the arrival of Robert Thompson (no relation), who earned a Michelin star while cooking at The Hambrough in Ventnor. Hard on the heels of easy-going Isla’s Conservatory, the hotels’ flagship restaurant (also called Isla’s) is now open, with a menu featuring Thompson’s trademark cuisine – a distinctive mix of Anglo-European influences and ideas peppered with island produce.
