Following his departure from Michelin-starred La Bécasse, chef Will Holland has moved to south Wales and teamed up with the owners of The Grove at Narberth – a hot-ticket boutique hotel just five miles inland. Located in a purpose-built, cedar-clad complex overlooking Coppet Hall Beach and Carmarthen Bay, Coast is more casual and family-friendly than Holland’s previous ventures, with brunch, a dedicated ‘little people’s menu’ and a flexible carte inspired by Welsh produce (including seafood from nearby Saundersfoot harbour). Style without stuffiness is the mantra – witness starters of griddled squid with grapefruit and shaved fennel or Carmarthen ham with crispy egg, peas and wholegrain mustard. Mains continue the theme (grilled halibut with lentils, burnt cauliflower and garam masala, say), while desserts include marmalade baked Alaska with blood orange. Great views are guaranteed whether you’re sitting in the glass-fronted dining room or out on the huge terrace.
