Situated beneath the legendary Ryan’s Bar in Edinburgh’s West End, the aptly named Cellar Restaurant is known for its candlelit alcoves, smooth jazz and top-notch steaks from the Borders. As well as prime meaty cuts, the kitchen also sends out a mixed bag of starters ranging from Cullen skink to aubergine pancakes with red pepper jam, plus some Scottish seafood (sea bass fillet with lemon aïoli and shoestring fries). For afters, expect traditional ideas such as dark chocolate and hazelnut mousse or sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch ice cream. Also look out for the great-value ‘three-three-three’ menus (three choices per course, plus a craft beer or a glass of wine from the well-spread international list). Special jazz-themed jam sessions are held on the last Sunday of every month.
