Square Meal Review of The Norfolk Riddle ?

The village of Walsingham is famous for its Anglican and Catholic shrines, although foodies now make a pilgrimage here for the excellent pickings available at the Farm Shop and the Norfolk Riddle. Like the shop itself, this quirky, cosy little venue is part of the Walsingham Estate, and puts great store by the freshness of its produce. Game comes straight from a local shoot and fish is from the North Norfolk boats – so expect big flavours in the shape of cod’s roe fritters with tartare sauce, Walsingham beef casserole, seared sea bass with steamed local asparagus or Gressingham duck breast with sweet potato chips. Set lunches (£11 for two courses) are a bargain, while traditional roasts pull in the crowds on Sundays. The Riddle also has a thriving fish and chip counter for takeaways (although you can also eat-in).
