Fêted as one of the brains behind the re-launch of Soho grandee Kettner’s, Leo Alexander has teamed up with two colleagues to open Hugo’s in Egham – a high-end Mediterranean restaurant inspired by the 50s West End eatery of the same name. Open from breakfast & brunch onwards, the venue offers a sunny menu that embraces deli platters, bruschetti & dishes ranging from raviolini with porcini, sage & thyme or seafood ‘grantinato’ with wild mushrooms to venison sausages in red wine sauce with spring onion mash; also look out nostalgic specials inspired by the original Hugo’s. Co-owner Ray Rochetti was sommelier at Kettner’s, so expect big things from a wine list that majors on Champagne & bottles from artisan European growers with green credentials. Otherwise, Prosecco-based bellinis are a favourite sip, along with a special ginger-infused fizz.
