When this much-loved Lanes eatery relocated to a huge glass-fronted venue in the ultra-modern Myhotel complex, Brighton's creatively minded foodies held their collective breath. Thankfully, Chilli Pickle has gone from strength to strength: “it was great when it opened and is still great today”, confirmed one regular. Chef Alun Sperring (ex- Cinnamon Club in London) continues to wow diners with his “light touch” and complex take on Indian cuisine, while his wife Dawn is a friendly presence out front, where pastel colours add a touch of Bollywood glamour. Signature dishes such as oxtail Madras and tandoori-spiced sea bass remain as fragrantly enticing as ever, although it’s all about freshness and attention to detail – from zingy homemade chilli and pineapple pickle to the last-minute sprinkling of perfumed rose water over mutton biryani. Powerful New World reds and Belgian beers stand up well to the vibrant flavours.
