Cafe Maitreya

Cafe Maitreya is one of Bristol’s most impressive dining propositions, with an unpretentious atmosphere & a regularly changing menu of elegant, modern vegetarian food. Veggies & vegans sing its praises, but carnivores have also been impressed by the quality & range of the dishes on offer. Smoked ricotta ballottine on toasted brioche with hot poached pear & green tomato chutney is a good way to start, before pied bleu mushrooms, gruyere & brazil nut tarte tatin served with pak choi, marinated endive & plum dressing, or rhubarb & sweet potato gratinée with grilled marinated celeriac, roast hazelnuts & hazelnut sauce. Desserts are sensational, especially the rosehip, champagne & raspberry trifle with honeycomb & lavender ice cream. Most of the produce used is seasonal: some is harvested from the cafe’s own allotments & gardens, while extra supplies come from foraging. Organic wines & beers, too.
