Restaurants in Edinburgh

Scotland’s capital and second-largest city (after Glasgow) has more than its fair share of charm – helped by the spectacular setting of the famous Castle Rock and the distinctly unique character of the medieval Old Town and planned Georgian New Town districts. Tourism is an important economic mainstay – in August alone, the Edinburgh Festivals bring in more than four million visitors – and restaurants in Edinburgh play their part, too. With five Michelin-starred establishments and a fine selection of coffee shops, cafés and bistros catering for every taste, there’s really no reason to settle for generic touristy places. Choice ranges from fine-dining stars such as The Kitchin and Restaurant Martin Wishart to the hugely popular modern-Scottish Angels with Bagpipes, from David Bann (topping the list of vegetarian eateries) to Mother India’s Café. It’s also worth seeking out long-established places with legendary reputations such as Valvona & Crolla and Café St Honoré.
