Set on the banks of the river Tay, Dundee is the fourth-largest city in Scotland. Although well-known as the home of DC Thompson and Co, publishers of The Dandy and The Beano, and James Keiller & Sons, pioneers in the commercial production of marmalade, nowadays the city is famed for its innovation and invention. The ‘city of discovery’ is centred around science, a vibrant computer games industry and education – the University of Dundee was voted best for student experience in 2012, while RRS Discovery, Robert Falcon Scott’s Antarctic exploration vessel, which was built in Dundee, is now berthed in the city harbour. Restaurants in Dundee are an equally eclectic bunch, ranging from The Tasting Rooms, a contemporary wine bar and restaurant via the steak and seafood offerings at Blue Marlin Seafood Restaurant, to Bruach Bar and Restaurant located at Broughty Ferry close to Dundee, owned by rugby international Simon Taylor.
