The opportunity to dine in an enormous sleigh is the highlight of Stara Polska (meaning Old Poland), which is designed to evoke the atmosphere of a restaurant in the deepest Polish countryside. Not only is it festooned with agricultural artefacts from the fields of eastern Europe, it’s also home to a bizarre collection of stuffed birds, witches’ brooms & furniture made from rough cuts of timber. Diners tuck into heavy, rustic food such as bigos (hunter’s stew) & beef ghoulash with pearl barley, though for lighter appetites there’s a tapas-style menu which features meatballs, cabbage stuffed with rice & potato pancakes. A short & simple set-lunch menu costs £10.50 for two courses, while the Polish vodka & beers are worth investigating with guidance from the helpful staff.
