The place everyone went to when power-dressing was the thing, The Criterion Bar is due a revival – as far as elegant tippling is concerned, it certainly meets our criteria. The room, a Byzantine palace in cool marbles & shimmering gold mosaic, is one of London’s finest & its cocktails definitely worth negotiating the tourist hordes around Eros for: Carol Channing, Spicy Basil Martini & the Negroni are spot-on at around £8. Bar food such as calamari, Aberdeen Angus steak & goats’ cheese tart comes with 15 wines by the glass, while Harbin is an unusual choice of (Chinese) lager.
