You need to get past a figurehead of the warrior queen herself to gain entrance to this charismatic pub. Inside, traditionalists gaze admiringly at the original glazed tiles as they lounge in worn chesterfields, while cool kids from nearby City University dig the cheap drinks & DJs. Everyone (vegetarians excepted) appreciates the meaty burgers, which extend to lamb & cajun chicken; alternatives include steak & kidney pie or homemade lasagne. The bar is a no-go area for the Camra brigade, although others might fancy a pint of Kronenbourg or John Smith’s.
