What this diminutive restaurant lacks in size, it makes up for in character. The welcome from the owner always seems genuine & the kitchen on the ball. The Isola in the name refers to Sardinia, & there are plenty of culinary treats from the island: local pastas, gorgeous ripe tomatoes, great olive oil & excellent cheeses. Start with a lovely, lightly spiced mussel & clam stew in tomato broth, or a well-presented selection of interesting charcuterie with fig jam. Follow with the likes of roast sea bass with tomatoes, or pork ballotine with beetroot: all cooked to order & with pride. Drink Sardinian wine. The dining room may be a romantic space, but tables are rather too close together; this isn’t the venue to discuss intimate or private business.
