Square Meal review of Silk:
Silk’s small, oak-panelled room retains its benches & dock from its time as a magistrate’s court (part of the reason for its name). The dusty law books in glass cases add to the legal appeal, the glass ceiling & gramophone player are just random paraphernalia, while the Buddha statues point to the eclectic menu which take its inspiration from the Silk Route (the other reason for the name). There’s the odd European dish to suit hotel diner tastes, but Asian flavours are rife. Coriander root & pandan-leaf wrapped chicken might be followed by fillet steak assado (topped with foie gras & served with braised oxtail & lentil ragout), & then sake-poached pears with chocolate mousse. Staff are polite, the music is ambient & the whole experience feels like dining in a relaxing, luxurious box.
