If you fancy visiting a celebrity chef’s place, but forgot to book, try Jamie’s Trattoria. The more-relaxed space above Mr Oliver’s restaurant reserves some tables for walk-ins. It’s open from 7.30am on weekdays, so you can pop in for a freshly made croissant & coffee, or fill up on the ‘full monty’. Prices for the handmade pasta & straightforward, gutsy mains (perhaps roasted pork chop with grilled marinated courgettes, fennel & aïoli) are slightly lower than downstairs, but you could simply graze on bold-flavoured antipasti. Make up your own board from a selection that might include Sicilian octopus stew on bruschetta, or marinated fillet of organic salmon ‘al carpione’. To drink, you’ll find a short list of cocktails with zingy seasonal variations, London beers (Meantime, Sambrook’s) & wines (mostly Italian) by the glass, bottle & 500ml carafe.
