Square Meal review of Searcy's:
Subdued autumn colours, an equally subtle soundtrack of piano jazz & the wonderful views over the lake create a refined impression at Searcy’s, the Barbican’s most upmarket dining room, where both the food & smooth service impress & only the early closing times – which rule out the possibility of leisurely post-concert suppers – disappoint. A shame, as the food is worth lingering over, with ingredients from around the globe assembled with intelligence & panache. Start with spiced aubergine with plum tomato sorbet & toasted pine nuts or perhaps tempura soft-shell crab with green mango & coconut salad & pawpaw chutney. Mains include gilthead bream with papardelle, Mediterranean vegetables & globe artichoke, or beetroot, manouri & rocket ravioli with a vegetable consomme for veggies. Wines on the eclectic list display a similarly global bent.
