The Metropolitan

This fine old pub really holds its own in an area not short of quality drinking establishments. Though the surroundings aren’t picturesque – The Metropolitan is bounded by council estates on one side & railway tracks & the Westway on the other – there’s plenty on offer to entice punters into the lofty Victorian interiors, from a great ambience & cool Sunday-night DJs to an upstairs dining room with a little alfresco terrace. Food can be eaten both in the bar & dining room, from ale-battered haddock & Cajun mackerel fillet to Barnsley lamb chop & pork & leek sausages. Only drinks – an unimaginative line-up of Kronenbourg, Heineken, Amstel, Guinness & Grolsch – & uninterested staff let the side down.
