Square Meal review of Brunello:

Like its Eurosmart clientele, Brunello’s richly furnished baroque interiors – all burnished golds, black crystal & sumptuous fabrics – are ageing very well. And, thankfully, the kitchen appears to be largely back on track after last year’s dip in quality. An authentically simple approach, emphasising fresh ingredients & clean flavours, might mean that a meal starts with an utterly scrumptious dish of cold spaghetti in a delicate cauliflower cream with juicy seared scallops, or a delightful razor-thin beef carpaccio with avocado, black truffle & a salad of bitter leaves. And desserts, such as an amaretto creme brulee served in a Martini glass, are sensational. But a main course of flaccid Dover sole with squid ink risotto cooked on the tough side of al dente highlights Brunello’s persistent problem: at around £17 for a starter & £25 for a main course, there’s no room for culinary slip-ups, no matter how pleasant the surroundings.
