Square Meal review of Eight Over Eight:
The Chelsea sibling of Notting Hill’s eternally trendy E&O retains its effervescent buzz both in the small bar area up front & dining room at the rear. The pan-Asian menu has become famous in these parts & the likes of the signature chilli-salt squid served in a newspaper cone remains a top choice, while other tasty creations include new-style yellowtail sashimi (slivers of fish topped with ginger, microleaves & truffle oil), plump prawn & chive dumplings & Shanghai-style whole sea bass. Desserts – iced berries with hot white-chocolate sauce, say – are of a similarly high standard. It’s all supremely tasty stuff, though prices do add up. Factor in charming staff, great cocktails & a decent wine list & you’re at least paying for something worthwhile.
