Situated in a concealed courtyard behind Farringdon Tube, Puncheon is an agreeable if ever-so-slightly anonymous member of the Davy’s wine bar clan. Crimson walls & stark stone floors make for a slightly underwhelming interior, so it’s advisable to bag a table on the decking outside if you get the chance. The menu has moved lately towards an appealing assortment of glammed-up burgers (a Moroccan lamb version spiked with cumin & coriander), although you can also get more familiar items such as smoked salmon & haddock fishcakes if you fancy playing safe. Back-up comes from assorted sandwiches & sharing platters, & the ever-dependable Davy’s wine list includes a comprehensive assortment of reds, whites, ports & sherries.
