The lobster-pink exterior would be enough to make Rasa stand out, yet it has also secured an enviable reputation for its exceptional Keralan food. It may be entirely vegetarian but all but the most die-hard carnivores are bound to be won over by the intriguing food on offer. Things kick off well with aubergine in a batter spiked with coriander & chilli & pepped up by tangy tomato chutney. Top-notch curries include golden mangoes & green bananas in a glorious yoghurt sauce with the nip of green chillis, ginger & curry leaves, & beet cheera pachadi, a powerful combination of beetroot & spinach sweetened with coconutty sauce. Even the rice dishes are unusually fragrant. Considering the quality & the soothing room decorated with religious statues, it’s remarkably inexpensive.
