Square Meal Review of Odin's Restaurant ?

According to one reader, ‘the standards & attitudes of a bygone generation’ lurk behind the curtains at this bastion of old-school hospitality. Along with good-humoured staff & blue-blooded sensibilities, Odin’s also boasts a curious collection of art & artefacts – the combination of David Hockney canvases & gloriously overdone table settings combine to create a restaurant that could only exist in London. Lunch is a good bet for watching Harley Street at play, & you could set your calendar by the daily roast specials. The full carte relies heavily on the robust comforts of beef & venison casserole or roast monkfish with a bean & chorizo cassoulet, while desserts generally include Mrs Langan’s chocolate pudding – a reminder of the restaurant’s famous lineage. Support comes from a short, well-edited international wine list.

A very attractive room and lovely tables not too close together
Service excellent and the food too. (maybe I am greedy but portion sizes do seem to be getting smaller and this restaurant was the same)
looking forward to my next visit

A friend and I decided to dine there on a whim recently. I had eaten there a couple of years before whilst he had never been there.
The welcome and repartee with the front of house Lady was excellent and set a good tone for the evening. The waiting staff cariied on the light hearted and amusing atmosphere and were attentive throughout without being too
    intrusive.
The food was excellent and the chosen wine – a Julienas – excellent and sensibly priced. The ambience – it was busy – blended well with our mood and the variety of “nick nacks” made for interesting viewing albeit from a somewhat distant and seated position. It may have been too much of an intrusion on others to interrupt their meal so we could peer over at a painting or objet d'art. Although it would not have surprised if the clientele had welcomed a discussion and taught us a thing or two along its way.
A lovely evening and no doubt that we shall return. We urge diners who have not tried it to do so without delay. It reminds one of the standards and attitudes of a bygone generation but for all that it does not feel “dated” – quite the reverse. A welcome haven of good food, good wine and good service that leaves no aftertaste except that of a classic wine. Mmmm!

Beautiful food and ambience ruined by over zealous and officious waiting staff – we couldn't wait to leave. Yet, the food was excellent.

Eating at Odins is a little like having dinner at an aged aunt's; it's an experience drenched in tradition. The walls of the dining room are covered in works of art and the diners are seated in opulent, velvet chairs round cosy tables. The whole experience takes you back to another era and while the food remains true to this setting, the quality and presentation ensures that it remains appealing.

The meal there last Thursday lived up to expectations. The staff were incredibly friendly and courteous and the courses timed perfectly. A starter of mushroom stuffed brioche was delectable although rather filling and a good appetite needed to work through all three courses. The lamb was cooked to perfection and the grilled hailbut simply presented and yet very tasty. Desserts were a little hit and miss and the lighter options (such as poached figs and the homemade sorbet/ice cream) appeared to be a better bet. The atmosphere alone makes Odins worth a visit and coupled with the service and good food, it is a reliable destination for a memorable meal.
