Unknown to many diners beyond Mayfair, Miyama is nevertheless much valued among London’s sushi & sashimi cognoscenti for serving some of the best raw fish in London. But there’s much else besides: cold starters such as chilled tofu with bonito flakes, ginger & spring onion exhibit the pure, clean flavours for which Japanese cuisine is famous, while hot appetisers such as juicy nuggets of deep-fried pork with a grated daikon relish deliver more straightforward satisfaction. Main courses include a range of grilled meat & fish with teriyaki sauce (salmon, sea bass, chicken & beef) while hearty bowls of nutritious noodle soups are popular with local workers for lunch. Prices, though not exactly bargain basement, are nevertheless good value for a Mayfair Japanese while charming, kimono-clad waitresses make up for the bland decor.
