The County Hall Restaurant
This plush dining room attached to the London Marriott hotel is firmly rooted in the British tradition. Solid oak panelling, thick carpets & heavy red curtains filter out the tourist hubbub from the nearby South Bank, transporting diners to a rather more civilised experience. Quintessentially patriotic, with a few modern tweaks & ingredients ‘rooted in the season’, the menu might feature the likes of smoked salmon from esteemed east London curers H Forman & Sons; there are also gutsy grills of Cornish beef, cod in boozy London Pride batter, a slate of British cheeses & retro puddings such as sherry trifle or warm treacle tart. The wine list isn’t as prohibitive as the luxe surrounds may suggest either, with a good number of bottles below the £30 mark.
