A much-needed revamp has re-established Fortnum & Mason as an essential foodie destination, while David Collins’s vision for its chic white & wood wine bar recalls a cool refettorio somewhere on the Adriatic. Around 50 sensibly priced wines, mostly available by the glass, include several stars: Pegasus Bay Waipara 2004, a New Zealand Pinot Noir, or a 2006 Redoma Branco Niepoort from the Douro region of Portugal, will delight adventurous fans of Burgundy, whose style they echo. Any bottle sold in-store can be served, subject to a £10 corkage fee, while tasting flights can be ordered to partner charcuterie, fish & vegetarian snack plates & puds from £5.
